Dar'riuk was a savage and brutal officer of the Orc's military force. His tribe would regularly go to war to contest territory from other tribes and surrounding kingdoms. His chief was rising in power, and was speaking of full scale conquest of the surrounding tribes.
Dar'Riuk was tasked with leading a troop to push (insert kingdom)'s forces out of their territory. They were met with small force, and they engaged them fearlessly. He let the rage of war overcome his senses and charged in with his allies. He fought hard, slaying as many as he could and ignoring his wounds. It seemed they were fighting well and beating the opposition back. Suddenly a flash of light, searing heat, and screams of pain and horror. He couldn't see what was happening in the chaos. He called out to his most trusted soldiers, but nobody responded. He stumbled around as flames danced around him and the screams continued. The enemy continued fighting, seemingly unaffected by the carnage. They pushed forward easily and cut down his men who were trying desperately to shed themselves of the flames. Finally he found he had wandered to the edge of the battlefield. He looked back, and had full view of the inferno. There was no way anyone could have survived. Could he save anyone? As the rage of battle faded, he felt the fatigue, the wounds, and most of all the burns. Dar'riuk turned and walked away. He never looked back, and there was no way he could forgive himself if he did.
He didn't walk home, for there is no place there for a man who did not fight to his last and fall with his men. Dar'riuk wandered. He stumbled into a town, asked for a room in the inn to nurse his wounds, and collapsed. He realized he now had now home, no family, no belongings, and no purpose. For the next few months he did odd jobs and gambled to stay feed himself. He found himself turning to drugs and prostitutes to feel alive. He gives his name only as "Dar" now, not wanting to have anything to do with the man he was before.
